The Honey Dog Story

About Me + Honey Dog Training

Hi, I’m Jessica! I’m the founder and lead trainer at Honey Dog Training. My love for behavior modification started at an early age by playing an active role in supporting children with special needs. Through this, I found effective and unconventional ways to communicate with others; and in turn, saw first-hand how clarity, structure, and boundaries play a critical role in our overall happiness and well-being for humans and dogs alike.

Fast forward to adopting my dog Jax, with special needs. Quickly, I realized that humanizing dogs is not the answer. In other words, we live in a world where treating dogs like humans is what seems like the right thing to do because for us it feels nice, which can be a huge disservice to the dog (and human) as it does not truly meet our dog’s needs. Good intentions without education can potentially lead to enabling bad behavior. The answer is advocating for the dog and educating ourselves to understand their true needs. Essentially, putting their needs above our own.

After seeing rewarding results with Jax, (while understanding my training journey with Jax is life-long), I knew this was my calling. I want to help others that are just as frustrated as I once was. I’ve been in your shoes, but I am confident I can help you and your dog have a better relationship. I have successfully trained dozens of dogs and have continually educated myself (because who doesn’t love to learn when you have serious passion?)

I currently obtain the following education:

  • The Michael Ellis School For Dog Trainers Puppy Developement

  • Leerburg University - Leash Skills

  • Shadow Programs

“There is nothing better to me than to see a dog feeling understood and well advocated for.” ♥️
