Being in nature with your dog and how it can effect their behavior
We sometimes think or even hear that phrase “a tired dog is a good dog” — but it’s definitely not only about burning energy. It’s about how that energy is spent. Think about how challenging your mind can tire you or even relax you, same can be true for dogs. Actual fulfillment for a dog doesn’t come from chasing a ball in the backyard or doing laps around the neighborhood, especially if those are daily activities. They aren’t really going to challenge your dog’s mind. It comes from purposeful movement — the kind that taps into their instincts, connects them and roots them back into nature. The owners that I see spending time hiking, doing activities like biking, running or swimming— are the dogs who I believe are much more fulfilled in the world and have less behaviorally issues. Try it for a few weeks. Go to 1-3 places a week and see how it affects their behavior!
